It was a beautiful afternoon and the sun was wonderfully hot as some of the residents of Cogos Park, Mylor Bridge, came together to celebrate the 75th. Anniversary of VE Day. Two large Union Flags bedecked the door of one of our houses, plus some smaller ones elsewhere. We were situated either side of the road. We all took great delight in setting up our tables and chairs, following the social distancing guidelines of course, and then settling down to enjoy our afternoon tea. It was so lovely to be all together, talking and laughing. People passed us on the road to stop and chat while others from their cars slowed down and waved. A helicopter flew quite low over us, so we all waved and were rewarded by its coming round again. We just hoped he was not judging our social distancing, but we had measured that, so knew we were all right. It was a wonderful afternoon, a fitting end to all the very moving television programmes on VE Day we had watched during the day and, now we were looking forward to the Queen’s address to the nation.
