We think we are unique in that we never have to solicit editorial content.  It just comes to us in abundance.  We welcome contributions from every age and topic range subject to this policy; we have no ambition to be bland.

The Deadline

The deadline for all submissions is 12:00 noon on the 10th of the preceding month.  In fairness to all contributors this deadline is strictly adhered to.

The Editing

All submissions are subject to editorial approval. The editorial team, appointed by the Editor, will usually edit pieces even if just to fit them into the space allocated.  However sometimes we get rather lengthy pieces, and they may need extensive editing.  We are also quite particular about fact checking.   We do our best to ensure that all submissions, as well as advertising, has the right tone, length, and quality for The Magazine. After all The Magazine is read by all ages across a quite diverse community.

The Final Say

The Editor has the final say on the content, article title and the final proof, though we endeavour to stay true to the original.  We have a great team of proofers and The Magazine goes through a minimum of 3 levels of proofing.  However, we are mere mortals and sometimes things may slip through.

Due to both a limit on space and a strict printing schedule we may not always be able to include your item.  We will however let you know if we can’t fit it in, and if appropriate we will roll it over to the next issue.

The Written Word

All submissions must be written in an MS Word document, and sent as an attachment, or contained within the body of an email.

As guidance a full page is about 400/450 words, with space for a few photos.  However, all submissions are subject to the space available, and may be edited to fit the space allocated.

The Photos

We also ask that photos to be sent as JPEG or PNG high resolution files (minimum 300 dpi).  Embedded photos are often difficult to edit and do not always meet the required resolution.

Any photos provided with editorial content may also be used on the website www.mylorandflushing.org.uk or Facebook page www.facebook.com/MylorandFlushing.

The List

Rather than list the items we accept for publication we thought it easier to list what we do not consider suitable.  This list is not exhaustive and the final decision rests with the Editor who may choose to discuss any submission with the Deputy Editor.

The list may be fairly obvious, but we think it’s good to be clear:

  • misrepresentation of the truth or containing factual inaccuracies
  • divisive, inflammatory - liable to create disagreement, anger, and contention
  • slanderous or libellous
  • political opinions or campaigns
  • anything that contains violence or may be deemed offensive
  • illegal or adult material
  • criminal activity, terrorism, cults, racial hatred, controlled drugs, gambling or violence
  • anything that is threatening, aggressive, abusive, anti-social, sexually biased, obscene or discriminatory
  • does not take consideration of varied ages and demographics
  • articles must be non-promotional. Any promotional-based articles are covered under the advertising policy.

We will not print or promote any material that runs counter the to the aims of the governing documents of Mylor and Flushing Community Publications which state that it aims to “promote and support the health, happiness, knowledge and well-being of the residents of the area regardless of age, ethnic origin, ability, sex, belief or political affiliation.”

The End

We will not tolerate communication or behaviour by members of the public towards either the Editor, Editorial team or the Board of Directors that would be considered harassment, bullying or intimidation.

The Board of Directors and the Editor reserve the right to block any person who does not respect this policy.
